They do have an unfair advantage. In fact, they have many. To start with, they have done this many times before. They are trained in what to say and how to say it. All around how they can't give you more. They may use the following negotiation tactics - time pressure, misrepresentation, higher authority, good cop/bad cop, lowball, decoy, bogey, etc. and if you're not prepared, you won't even know it's happening until it's too late.
